Large blocks of cherry were glued up into master blanks large enough to carve the fhinished columns from.

The old addage that a shop can never have enough clamps was proven with this project. An average of 20 clamps were used for each of the 14 column blanks.

The glued up blanks were trimmed and planed to a consisten size.

The edge corners were cut off the blanks to make it easier to round them before final carving.

The blanks were cut round on the CNC machine.

The grape clusters were relief carved on each column using the 4-axis CNC machine.

A group of finished columns is seen here.

The carvings were cleaned by hand using small riffler files and sandpaper.
